Northern Star Supports ⭐️ (NSS) is a rapidly growing early intervention and disability organisation servicing Newcastle and the Hunter Valley. We are seeking an enthusiastic Occupational Therapist to join our transdisciplinary team of therapists, developmental teachers, and key workers.

About the Role:
We are hiring for full-time or part-time positions where you’ll provide evidence-based, best-practice early intervention therapy to children with developmental delays, concerns, or disabilities. You’ll deliver services in natural settings such as homes, schools, community spaces, and early childhood services.

Working in partnership with families, you will:
✅ Empower children to participate in everyday activities and achieve positive outcomes.
✅ Support families to build their capacity to help children thrive.
✅ Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to provide holistic, child-centered care.

What You’ll Do:
  • Deliver therapy aligned with the National Best Practice Guidelines for Early Childhood Intervention.
  • Work collaboratively within a transdisciplinary key worker model to provide holistic, family-focused support.
  • Conduct assessments and deliver evidence-based interventions for sensory processing, motor skills, daily living activities, and equipment prescription.
  • Support families to embed strategies into daily routines to help their child achieve prioritised goals.

What We’re Looking For:
  • A Tertiary qualification in Occupational Therapy and current AHPRA registration.
  • A passion for working with children, including those with developmental delays and disabilities.
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills for working within a multidisciplinary team.
  • A current Working with Children Check, Police Check, and NDIS Worker Screening.
  • A valid driver’s license and willingness to travel across Newcastle and the Hunter Valley.

Requirements

Outcomes of the role: 
Provide early childhood intervention and evidence-based therapy to support children and their families to assist their development, well-being and to participate in meaningful activities and routines in the home, education settings and community. 
Enhance families and other key caregivers’ capabilities to support their children through experiences and opportunities that strengthen knowledge and skills, and to promote the use of interest-based learning opportunities with children. 
Build strong, collaborative relationships with families and support informed decision making on interventions that fit into everyday routines and activities to help achieve family’s prioritised goals. 
Requirements for the role: 
• Tertiary qualification in Occupational Therapy and current registration with AHPRA. 
• Work with children including children living with developmental delay and/or disability. 
• Ability to work in a collaborative team, providing consultation to Speech Pathologists, Physiotherapists and Early Childhood Teachers. 
• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with families and professional stakeholders. 
• Excellent time management and planning skills. 
• Commitment and/or experience in implementing the National Guidelines for Best Practice in Early Childhood Intervention.

Responsibilities

The successful applicant: 
Hold a relevant Tertiary Qualifications related to Occupational Therapy and current APHRA registration 
Unconditional vehicle licence, and ability to travel Newcastle and the Hunter Valley 
Work with children and families in a transdisciplinary model of service delivery. 
Work with children and families in Occupational Therapy paediatric role 
Confirm willingness to complete references, police check, NDIS checks.
